A dog is the only creature on earth that loves you more than itself." – Josh Billings
Animals have been a part of my life forever. The empathy towards their suffering is immense, which is why many times I've rescued and adopted those in need. The Border Terrier was my first purebred dog. I made this choice very consciously after extensive research and careful analysis of the breed.
I first saw a Border Terrier in the corporation where I worked - one day the boss, a native Englishman, brought in two very unassuming and funny little dogs. It was love at first sight! The first Border, a female named Foxy came to us in 2010 and is still with us today. For many years, she was one of the youngest dogs in our home. As time passed, dogs passed away, and only Foxy remained. That's when I managed to persuade my husband to adopt another Border. She came from the same kennel as the first female (...)
The Border Terrier is a breed of dog that originates from the border regions of England and Scotland. The beginnings of this breed date back to the 19th century, specifically the 1880s. Border Terriers were used for hunting rodents, foxes, and other pests that posed a threat to agricultural crops in that region.
This breed was valued for its courage, intelligence, and ability to work in difficult terrain. Initially, dogs of this breed were diverse in appearance, but over time, breeders began to strive for uniformity in the breed's characteristics.
In 1920, the breed standard was established for the Border Terrier, defining its
distinctive appearance and temperament. This breed was officially recognized by The
Kennel Club in the United Kingdom in 1920, and in the same year, The Border Terrier
Club in the UK was formed. Additionally, Border Terriers were also used for farm work
as herding dogs due to their agility, endurance, and ability to work in various
conditions. During wartime, they were also utilized by the military, serving as guard
dogs.
